Celebrate Bandra Wine Tasting Event on 15 November

Celebrate Bandra, an initiative of the Celebrate Bandra Trust and Fountainhead Promotions & Events Pvt. Ltd., presents an exquisite Wine Tasting Experience, where you will learn to appreciate wine and the processes of winemaking.

There will be a total of 13 wineries participating, each offering first hand knowledge and tasting advice along with live music and fine gourmet. The wine tasting begins at 11:30 am on the 15th of November and ends at 10:00 pm the same day.

Sula launches new varietal of Mosaic wines

Sula continues to experiment with new varietals and make wines of outstanding quality and superb value. In its endeavor, Sula Vineyards has launched a new wine varietal called Mosaic for the Indian market. Mosaics are fruity wines with soft tannins for everyday drinking and at great prices. The wines are all blends of classic grape varieties.

France Govt. to clear wine dispute with India
October 27, 2009


The government of France has stated that the dispute with India over import duty on wines and spirits would be sorted out through discussions without approaching the WTO.

Earlier, the European Union (EU) had threatened to drag India to the WTO if taxes on wines and spirits imported from Europe are not slashed. In 2007 India had slashed the additional customs duty it charged on imported spirits, up to 150% of value of imports in some case, but simultaneously hiked the basic customs duties to 150% from 100%.

Bacardi Martini India launches Eristoff premium vodka

Bacardi Martini India has launched the 200-year-old international premium vodka brand “Eristoff” in the Indian market.

The brand is priced at Rs. 450 for a 750 ml bottle and is available in leading licensed liquor stores. It is said that Eristoff has become the second largest international premium vodka brand globally.

Sula Wines plans to expand

Sula Wines is planning to expand its business. The company plans to increase capacity at its facilities and introduce mid-priced range wines to attract wine lovers. At present, Sula sells about 2.75 lakh cases annually. The company now plans to increase its production from 45 lakh litres to 52 lakh litres , which is expected to entail an investment of Rs four to five crore.

The Rs 70-crore company is targeting a 20-per cent growth for the current year. Sula has 1,500 acres under contract farming and the company aims to increase it by 20 per cent to meet the demand for quality wines.

Consumption of Indian wines rises in India's five star hotels

India's wine market, which had been growing year on year, dropped by 20 per cent between August 2008 and July 2009 due to recession. The wine business during this time went into the pause mode. But the last two months have been positive for the industry.

Due to recession, Hotels cut down their wine lists and stopped buying labels that cost them exorbitant amount. Due to this the consumption of Indian wines in five-star hotels in the country has increased.

Prestige wines and Spirits to import alcohol free wine to India

Prestige Wines & Spirits Private Limited, an Indo-European venture has launched alcohol free white wine under the brand name of Natureo in Mumbai and Delhi. Natureo has 0.5 per cent alcohol by volume and is slightly sweet with 30 gm of sugar per litre. This low calorie, low alcohol wine can be enjoyed by those who do not want to drink alcohol, but still want to enjoy the taste of wine.

Carlsberg to start fifth India brewery

The Denmark-based global beer maker, Carlsberg has started work on its fifth brewery in India. The US$20-million plus brewery will come up in Andhra Pradesh with monthly capacity of half-a-million cases.

Carlsberg has acquired 40 acres in Medak district, and expects to put the plant on stream within 12 months. The company is in its third year of operations in India and has already acquired four existing breweries in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradaesh and West Bengal with a combined capacity of 8.25 lakh hectolitre or nearly 10 million cases (of 7.8 litre each) annual.

Andhra Pradesh farmers to develop mango wine

About 500 farmers of the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh are developing a mango wine and mango fruit-flavored water. The group of mango growers has registered with Galla Foods Pvt. Ltd, a member of the Amara Raja group, which was set up in 2005, and is working in tandem to blend value-added products from mangoes. The products are expected to hit the consumer market in the next two years.

Scotch Malt Whiskey Society enters India

The Scotch Malt Whiskey Society (SMWS) is now opening in India to distribute single cask, single malt whiskeys carrying the SMWS brand name exclusively through its membership.

Raghuraj Kanudia, head of the India chapter, says that 16 of the society’s 300 varieties will initially be available in India.

SABMiller India launches Indus Pride
